19th Annual Conference, Evergreen International

September 18-19, 2009: Joseph Smith Memorial Building, 15 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. Attendance: 200 registered attendees, plus an additional 125 Church leaders at the general authority session.

Theme: "...come unto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of his salvation, and the power of his redemption. Yea, come unto him, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him, and continue in fasting and praying, and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved." Omni 1:26

SPEAKERS

Dr. Joseph Nicolosi

Dr. Joseph Nicolosi is the former president and principal research investigator for the National Association of Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH). He is the author of several books, including Reparative Therapy of Male Homosexuality, Healing Homosexuality: Case Stories of Reparative Therapy, A Parent's Guide to Preventing Homosexuality, and the soon to be available Same and Attachment Loss: The Practical Work of Reparative Therapy.. Dr. Nicolosi is the Clinical Director of the Thomas Aquinas Psychological Clinic in Encino, CA, where he specializes in the treatment of men with unwanted homosexuality. He is a licensed psychologist and a member of the American Psychological Association. He and his wife have one son and live in Thousand Oaks, California.

Dr. Nicolosi also spoke at Evergreen conferences in 1994 and 1992.

Melissa Fryrear

Melissa Fryrear serves as a director in the Government and Public Policy Division for Focus on the Family. She is actively involved in educating and equipping Christians on a variety of issues related to pro-family values and conservative social principles. Much of her commitment comes from her own life experiences and the various trials she’s overcome, such as homosexuality and alcoholism. She served as executive director of one of Exodus International’s longest-standing referral ministries and continues to serve as a leader with Exodus’ national team. Melissa holds a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary.

Elder Bruce C. Hafen

Elder Bruce C. Hafen serves in the First Quorum of the Seventy. As a nationally-recognized scholar on family relationships, children, and education, Elder Hafen is convinced that “the Church’s voice needs to be heard in today’s world.” For the past 25 years, Elder Hafen, who earned a juris doctorate from the University of Utah and is a former dean of Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, has taught and written about family law and education. “Gospel perspectives on family life are desperately needed today,” he says, “in courtrooms, classrooms, and family rooms all over the world.”

In 1973, he helped establish BYU’s law school. From 1978-1985, Elder Hafen was president of Ricks College. In 1989, he became provost at BYU, the number-two administrator at the university. During these years, he has always been a teacher-scholar, drawing increasingly on religious foundations for his scholarly and professional activities.

Steven Kapp Perry

Steven Kapp Perry is an award-winning songwriter, playwright, and broadcaster. He has released 14 CDs of original music including “From Cumorah’s Hill” and has had two of his stage musicals appear on PBS television stations. He has written for National Geographic Children’s Television, Deseret Book, and many other companies. He is the host of “Soft Sunday Sounds” on FM100.3, Utah’s most listened-to radio program.

Johanne Frechette Perry

Johanne Frechette Perry is the featured actress in “Polly—A One-Woman Musical,” which she has performed across the US. Her voice is familiar to many from her solos on LDS recordings and she is member of the four-woman vocal group, One Clear Voice. Johanne teaches drama part-time at American Heritage, a private school in American Fork.

Steve & Johanne have volunteered with ReachTheChildren.org in Kenya, Uganda, and Ghana, in Africa. They also host Church History tours in the US and in Israel for Morris Murdock Travel. The Perrys love music, the gospel of Jesus
Christ, each other, and whichever of their four children currently has a scholarship.
