Evergreen Update NewsletterFebruary 20, 2007The February 26th issue of PEOPLE magazine has an article titled "Can Therapy Turn Gays Straight?" (It is featured in the table of contents and the article is on pages 79-80.) The following e-mail is from Richard Cohen, author of the book Coming Out Straight, who was the subject of that article. Richard was the keynote speaker at the annual Evergreen conference in 2000. If you wish to encourage Mr. Cohen in his valiant efforts to spread the message, his contact information is included at the end of his e-mail. ********************* Date: Saturday, February 17, 2007 6:05 PM Greetings, Pick up a copy of the latest issue of PEOPLE magazine (dated Feb 26th with Anna Nicole Smith on the cover). In the index, page 4, you will see a photo of my wife, youngest son Alfred and myself which reads: "The Gay Debate: Can therapy change sexual orientation?" The article begins is on P age 79, with a very beautiful photo of my wife, son and myself on page 80. Even though the article is less than favorable (many dissenting voices against reorientation/reparative therapies), still they included some wise words from Dr. Joseph Nicolosi and a bit of my personal story (even though some of my words were not accurately quoted). One of the best parts of the article is a great family photo which says it all: "I tried to make the gay life work and it just didn't," says Richard Cohen (with wife Jae Sook and son Alfred). If a picture is worth a thousand words, the HOPE OF CHANGE was seen! Even though the journalist focused on critical thoughts and critical voices, still our message came across loud and clear. We have a ways to go, but be of good cheer, we have just begun to fight for the right of all men and women to know that CHANGE IS POSSIBLE. Keep us in your prayers as we continue to stand up and stand proud for change! Against all odds and dissenting voices, we move forward. We appreciate your continued support. Many Blessings, Richard Richard Cohen, M.A. |
