Testimony of LorrinGiven at the 2008 Annual Conference of Evergreen International Shortly after I joined the church in late 2000, I began frequenting a local LDS book store that used to exist in my home town of Tennessee. But this day in December I walked in and the place had been rearranged. The owner had placed some self help books she had towards the front of the store. One of them caught my eye. The book was called Homosexuality, Symptoms & Free Agency. I felt after reading some of this book that I needed to buy it. So I decided to do so. The look on the Woman’s face--who I knew, by the way--was interesting to say the least. I however got the book anyway and told her why later. I could not relate very well to this book because my experience and path was different. However in the book the author repeatedly mentions Evergreen and I feel that was why I was prompted to buy the book. I called the number in the back of the book and got a hold of Sharon; who was the receptionist at the time. By January 7th 2001 I began working to get a support group started in Nashville where I’m from. It never was created, but I’m sure it will in the Lord's time. My bishop had just been called due to a new ward being created. He had never been a bishop before that time. Because of this, he was shocked as I ended up being one of the first--if not the first person--to go to him with this problem and asked if he would help me start a group there. He told me later that when I told him he had second thoughts about the position he had said yes to. He was differently not expecting anything like this to come his way that early in the game. I’ve since moved to Utah and I am now working with my stake president to get a group started in the Ogden area. I have come along way since I joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints. I’m sure it is safe to say that this decision has saved my life in more ways then I can fully understand. With this, I close in the name Jesus Christ Amen.
